Story of the relationship of a blind retired. Lt. Col. Frank Slade played by Al Pacino and an English Prep school student Charlie Simms played by Chris O’ Donnell and how their lives change over a Thanksgiving weekend.

Amazing direction by Martin Brest to produce a masterpiece of 1992. Al Pacino at his very best portrays this ‘Self-Glorified’ Lt. Col., whose pride about his tenure as an Army Ranger under then President Lyndon Johnson, knew no bounds. On the other hand, Chris O’ Donell’s character, a simple, mild and meek kid who needs a scholarship for his education and, thus, is put in charge of taking care of Lt. Col. for the thanksgiving weekend to earn some Brownie Points.

Truly one of the best movie of our times as the movie goes on to showcase standing up for the truth and their dependency on each other with moments of unexpected joys and sorrows and of course…Women!

Pacino’s over-the-top sarcasm, witty one-liners, army discipline and the infamous “Hoo-ah!” earned Pacino his truly deserved, first Oscar as Best Actor.

Three things that really mesmerise you in the movie are:

  • Pacino’s Pearls of Wisdom
  • Pacino’s Tango Dance with Gabrielle Anwar
  • Pacino’s Courtroom Speech

This movie does qualify for the list of movies you must see before you die. An unforgettable movie that will remain in your mind for ages. It did take me a lot of retries to post this article because of the enthusiasm and eagerness of letting out the plot! Nevertheless, do take time out on your weekend and catch it up with your family…I can guarantee you…it cannot disappoint you!
